Paul Hooper (@PaulHooper) is one of the NYC guys that came up from the South and I don't know if it's the region's grits or pervasive racism, but it made him a beast (see also Joe Zimmerman, Andy Sandford) . He's not super high profile around the NYC club scene because he spends most weekends out on the road, crushing. And don't take that as a sign he's one of these Road Hacks, he's highly respected among comedians and can murder just about any audience. And that's the sweet spot, right?
While it would be putting it mildly to describe his persona as "disgruntled" he's actually a charming and delightful fellow offstage and that warmth tends to shine through and take the bitter edge off his thoughts on things like death, loneliness and hating everything around him. It's a tremendous example of the "Yeah, life sucks, so let's all laugh about it together" vein of comedy and always a pleasure to watch.
