I know more than a few comedians who have a riff comparing comedy to karaoke (for example, Aaron Berg will sometimes address a nervous crowd by saying, "oooh, this karaoke is dirty...") so what makes more sense than karaoke after a comedy show?
Stand Up NY isn't the first venue or show to mix music or karaoke with comedy (some actually ON the show itself), but that is where I went and enjoyed my daylight savings time eve! Besides the fact that it's just plain fun, it's a smart idea - after the last show, transition into karaoke. A good number of audience members stayed to sober up (or drink more), a few even sang! And it drew in comedians & friends for a fun hang (and extra bar sales).
I'm told they're going to start doing this on a regular basis, so keep your eye out on Twitter and Facebook - it's a blast! And if Casey Balsham is there, don't get intimidated - she was on Broadway after all.
