And I use the term "shitshow" lovingly. Last Week's Fat Baby was a rollicking, weird good time of a show with a bunch of folks that were well fed and liquored up thanks to Ben & Josh and Fleet Week. Each comedian did a 5 minute set, followed by a one minute improvised song based on a title picked from a bucket, backed by DJ No Face. Only Seaton Smith and Robby Slowik bothered to do any amount of real material, while Jade Catta-Preta and Molly Austin just wrangled this one drunk sailor and Casey Balsham, Steph Simbari, Aaron Berg and Mike Finoia wrestled with the whole situation. (PS Aaron got a standing ovation, although the bar was so packed, most of us were already standing)
Some of the interesting new musical compositions included mismatched nipples, if the (white) sailor has a tiny asian dick, why lonely Steph needs some chickens, and glory holes. Which, I think, very nicely sums up the whole experience.
I love shows like this. As much as I'm a stand-up purist snob, I just adore these kind of crazy wild atmospheres where comedians are pushed out of their comfort zones and sometimes find new material, or at least work a much-needed comedy muscle.
Fat Baby (@fatbabylive) is every Wed at Fat Baby and Friday at The Stand. The Stand show is a little more tame, though Giulio raffled off his pants the very first time I attended.
