What's New is only four episodes in and already firmly cemented in my Top 5 favorite live shows in LA. But I always struggle with exactly how to talk about it here, since it's also available as a Nerdist podcast, so you can just listen for yourself.
The podcast covers live sets of all new material from Dan St Germain, Fahim Anwar, Zoltan Kaszas and host Christian Spicer, then those comedians talk about what inspired the bits in the first place. The fourth edition features a bonus set from Streeter Seidell and the live audience was treated to the headlining set (not included on the podcast) from Mike Lawrence.
Am I beating a dead horse to tell you what a fan of Fahim Anwar I am? Or Dan St Germain, for that matter? I kind of feel like I am, so let's just talk about Zoltan. I met Zoltan in San Diego a few years ago on Spicer's podcast "Stand Ups Sit Down" - which was in many ways a precursor to What's New. But I never managed to see him perform until last week. And, wow, no wonder he won this year's Seattle International Comedy Competition. So, even if you're as saturated with LA comedy as I am, it's worth a listen to the podcast to check out this beast from our little sister city.
