Skinny Sundays is a monthly I like a lot. They almost always draw a great crowd that lets them try some fun stuff like games and videos.. or in this case, a full on talent show with a comedy DJ, a magician, a comedy rapper and of course some awesome stand-up. This month, they fell under the "Put Zach Sherwin on your show and I'll be there" rule. [I should point out I'm not actually stalking Zach and technically the rule should be "Put Zach Sherwin on your show and be west of Vermont" - I miss his Sunday weekly at Taix pretty consistently, but I digress].
DJ Douggpound cold opened the show, which was amazing. First time I've seen him live and the crowd were pretty much completely on board. Though the woo-ing should have been a clue a couple of them would get out of hand later.
The game portion of the show - pitting Zach Sherwin against Adam Yenser in freestyle rapping about mermaids and campaign finance reform fizzled out. These games are always the most "this could go either way" portions of any Skinny Sundays show and this one pretty much tanked. Luckily, the crowd was still on board with the show as a whole and Zach ably picked things back up.
The show ended with hysterical sets from two of my favorites - Fahim Anwar and Chris D'Elia. Chris has a new bit comparing the girls' "three date rule" to an evil mastermind's insane set of tasks. It still has too much extra fat on it but the meat of the bit is already brilliant. The next day, I got a few hits to my website, searching "Does Chris D'Elia have a girlfriend?" I get a few of these every week and I always picture some starry eyed gal in whatever city he just visited typing that in, but the new bit made me wonder if the question had a different tone, like "Is there an actual human being he's talking about here???"
