Can we come up for a new term for "variety show"? That's the only way I can think to describe Hellogiggles After Dark but it makes me feel like I'm telling you about something I saw on Vaudeville or 1950s television. Maybe I'll ask the Walsh Brothers.
But for now... Hellogiggles After Dark is a variety show anchored by stand-up, but with characters and videos thrown in the mix. Rob O'Reilly and Beth Stelling were great (PS Nerdmelt hosts An Evening with Beth Stelling next Tuesday the 20th), of course I enjoyed Jerrod Carmichael but I was really there for Sean O'Connor.
Sean started with a new bit about yesterday's heartwarming Bat Kid saga. He tried out some other new bits and provided a little meta commentary about cracking nuts. He threw in the tried and true Ke$ha concert bit and then just as he was closing realized the Bat Kid bit had fallen a little flat because 90% of the audience hadn't seen the footage or even heard the story, so he launched into a explanation that managed to make me both laugh and totally tear up.
