My friends are making a movie, y'all! They started with a basic plotline - "Underbelly Blues follows a mysterious briefcase as it exchanges hands amongst a group of degenerate criminals who have come to believe that $10,000,000 is sitting inside of it." and then let everyone help develop their own colorful characters, so the final result is a mix of careful scripting, brainstorming and on-the-spot. Check it out!
Since I first heard/posted about this film, I've been lucky enough to fall into a crew of very funny young comedians - including Zane Helberg & Jamar Neighbors who both have memorable characters in this film, Seamus Reed who created the project and has a very funny turn onscreen and then through them to meet the Director Phil Messerer and get a look at some of the rough cuts of the film.
It's hilarious. For reals. Even if I didn't know anybody involved in this project, I'd be pretty psyched. It's funny and smart (okay, well dumb-smart) and silly throughout and there's one scene that I literally could not stop laughing during and had to actually turn away from the screen to catch my breath, only to look back and be seized with laughter again. I'm also psyched about it as a comedy nerd. The whole process of writing plus improv on top of it has prodcued such a unique bit of comedy that brings in so many elements from these comedians who all have very different styles.
And Tarantino is now interested in the project - okay, not that one, his father Tony Tarantino - but really who doesn't think that's pretty damn cool anyway. So check out the updated trailer with the new info and keep an eye out for info on the upcoming LA screening.
